Art New York

"It sitting down" in the City Hall Park
a welcome oasis after the long hot trek
over the Brooklyn Bridge.
I also decided to sit down in the park
for a rest stop with some knitting &
photos.

Brooklyn Bridge

After Starbucks we walked along
the river and across the Brooklyn
Bridge which first opened in 1883
and still going strong.

Classic New York

Starbucks in the sunshine and classic
New York fire escapes on the buildings
opposite - still in Brooklyn.

Knitting New York

We have just returned from a few days
in New York. In Brooklyn we found a
whole street of parking meters clad in
knitted covers!

Birthday cake

The birthday cake was classic
victoria sponge - set off by crazy
candles which re-light every time
you blow them out - supplied by
my mum and caused great hilarity
as I tried in vain to blow them out!
I was eventually rescued and helped
when the onlookers had stopped
laughing long enough.

Birthday theme

There seemed to be a bit of a theme
going on with my presents - around
ten of them were for cake-making
including this gorgeous cupcake kit.
haven't got photos of them all yet -
will post them when I get organised.

Birthday Treats

Last week was my birthday when I was given
this beautiful cabinet - destined to hold supplies
in the sewing room. each of the sixteen drawers
had a present in it making it feel like Christmas!

In the garden

This should keep the slugs away
from the strawberries - not sure
about the birds though!

New view from my window

Recent crazy winds finished off the tulips in
the tubs so this weekend saw a trip to the
garden centre in search of some replacement
colour for the deck.
As well as flowers we planted lettuce and
strawberries. I'm not usually particularly
good at growing things so we shall see.

Baby Bunting

Isn't this baby bunting pretty? Such fun to make
and a great way to use stash fabric up - though
I must confess to buying a few of these specially.
This is a present for a friend's new daughter -
she is three weeks old so may be a while before
she can decide whether she likes it or not!

St Omer

St Omer also of course famous for the beer
brewed locally.
Brought a small sample home to remind us
of our day.

St Omer

Bank holiday weekend saw us taking a day trip
to France. First thing we noticed was how quiet
the usually packed train terminal was - clearly
the credit crunch is having its effect here or could
it be Swine Flu?
Either way we had a great trip to St Omer - this
is St Bertin's Abbey originally built in the 7th
century by Christian monks. Plundered during the
French Revolution.
St Omer is full of historical interest and also some
rather good restaurants!
